Jonathan Shirlock Endowment Fund

Jonathan Shirlock Endowment Fund

As part of the current reorganization process, the foundation is creating the Jonathan Shirlock Endowment Fund at our annual meeting in April. This fund will be used to cover the daily administrative cost associated with running the foundation. Right now, funds used to award scholarships and cover legal services, accounting services, incorporation costs, and other expenditures are all drawn from the same source. By having these funds separate, it allows us the ability to devote more resources back to the foundation’s mission and award more scholarships to deserving candidates. With our current administrative structure, an endowment fund of $20,000 is necessary for continued growth of the foundation. With your help, we can create this fund.

Keene Award 2010

Keene Award 2010

On January 30th, the 2010 Sara Keene Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Clifford Foster of Natchitoches, Louisiana. An accounting student at Oglethorpe University, Clifford was diagnosed with leukemia in April of last year. Immediately following his diagnosis, Clifford’s parents drove 600 miles to be with him throughout his stay at Emory Hospital. Clifford’s treatment is atypical as it centers around a regimen of oral chemo medication but requires him to travel to Emory every three weeks to monitor his condition. As much assistance as health insurance provides towards Clifford’s treatment, it does not cover all that is necessary to monitor and control his leukemia. Clifford is an ideal candidate for the scholarship, and it is a great pleasure to be able to assist him in his battle against leukemia.
