Shirlock Foundation
Mission
The Shirlock Foundation's mission is to ease the financial burden faced by families of college students who have been diagnosed with Leukemia.
The Shirlock Foundation recognizes a growing need for financial support for college students diagnosed with leukemia. While many organizations and programs exist which are dedicated to helping children, college students fall in a gray area when it comes to available assistance. Though generally too old to be eligible for help from children's programs, most students still depend on their parents financially. Many are even ineligible for their parents' insurance coverage, though lacking the income to afford their own.
Clearly, battling a disease such as leukemia is challenging enough in itself. It can be a full time job for patients and their family members. The last thing they need to deal with in addition is the stress of financial worries. For this reason, the Shirlock Foundation's goal is to provide some degree of financial relief. The money given is not earmarked for treatments or medical expenses. The Shirlock Foundation leaves the decision of how best to use the money to the patients and their families. The money can be used for hotel costs, travel costs, meals or any other expenditure needed by the recipient. The Shirlock Foundation wants to do everything possible to help the patients and their families focus on the important goals: a speedy recovery and successful return to school.
